The Observatory Orchestra, a newly formed symphony orchestra based in the Griffith and Elysian Park communities, seeks participants to help in its growth and to prepare for its inaugural concert in Fall 2004.
We are a non-profit organization as defined in Section 501[c](3) of the Internal Revenue Code and are recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as tax-exempt under Section 501[a]. Articles of incorporation as a PUBLIC BENEFIT CORPORATION are on file with the Secretary of State of California.
Apart from being a musical organization committed to performing the standard symphonic and chamber repertoire with the highest standards of musical execution, we seek the betterment of our communities:
- Assist Music Programs in Local Schools
- The orchestra's Student Outreach and Access to Rehearsal (SOAR) program seeks to involve local music students in the musical experience with locally based professional and semi-professional musicians.
- Assist the Community
- The orchestra's Musicians in Service to the Community (MuSe) program offers the services of members of the orchestra at local community events.
- Assist Local Artists
- Local Players/Local Product - the orchestra seeks to identify and employ musicians who live and/or work in the communities served by the orchestra.
- Local Composers/Local Concerts - the orchestra seeks to identify composers who live in the communities served by the orchestra and perform their music at local concerts.
For musicians who are members of AFM/Local 47, we will pay fees for rehearsal and performance based on the UNIFORM MASTER AGREEMENT Covering the Professional Contingent of Metropolitan and Community Orchestras. For talented amateurs we offer you the opportunity to hone your orchestral skills in a supportive environment with other high-quality musicians.
For residents of Silver Lake, Los Feliz, Atwater Village, Echo Park, Elysian Heights, Glassell Park and other communities who feel strongly that the performing arts are an integral part of our slice of Los Angeles and have some time to spare, we offer you the opportunity to help make this vision a reality. Especially needed are event planning, fund raising and educational outreach skills.
The Observatory Orchestra has received Letters of Support from:
- Councilman Eric Garcetti
- Los Angeles Unified School District Board Member David Tokofsky
- Greater Griffith Park Neighborhood Council
- Silver Lake Neighborhood Council
- Glassell Park Neighborhood Council
- Friends of Ivanhoe (Elementary School)
Won't you join us to help to bring the performing arts alive in our communities?
